The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six official academic bodies responsible for the accreditation of public and private universities, colleges, secondary and elementary schools in the United States and foreign institutions of American origin. Schools go through the WASC accreditation process every six years. During this process, schools must conduct a self study that examines all aspects of a school including organization, vision for learning, curriculum, assessment, instructional strategies and school climate and culture. This self study examines data from a variety of sources and produces a detailed report that highlights both the successes and the critical needs of students and provides an action plan for continued improvement. Students, staff, parents, and teachers all play a critical role in the self study process. At the end of the six year cycle, a WASC accreditation team visits the school, reviews the school's self study report, meets the faculty, students and parents, visits classrooms and prepares its report and recommendations for the school.

Where does Monte Vista currently stand in this process?

Monte Vista is currently in its sixth and final year of our current self study process. In the Spring of 2015, Monte Vista submitted a three year progress report which was accepted by WASC. In the Fall of 2016, the school conducted its biannual survey of parents, students and staff and those surveys were examined by our focus and home groups. You can find those surveys and similar surveys from 2012 and 2014 on this website.  During the 2016-2017 school year, the WASC self study team reviewed the last two years of CAASPP testing data along with other academic achievement and school profile data and identified critical learner needs, created a list of strengths and prioritized growth areas, and revised its Schoolwide Action Plan.  Notes from all meetings are posted on the Navigation bar on the left side of this home page.  You can access notes from all meetings by clicking on the hyperlinked date.  To view the current state of our report, our third year progress report and our 2012 self study report, click on the hyperlinks located under WASC Reports on the Navigation bar to the left of this page.
