Graduation Requirements
Students who wish to receive a high school diploma from the San Ramon Valley
Unified School District shall have:
1. Accumulated at least the minimum number of credits in each of the subject
areas indicated below, and
2. Demonstrated mastery of the minimum competencies for graduation in math,
reading, and writing and editing as established by the Board of Education.

| English |
Students are required to earn 40 credits of English. Each
student must be enrolled in a full year of English in 9th, 10th, 11th,
and 12th grade. |
| Math |
Students are required to earn 20 credits of Math.
1. If you are going into a 4 year college, take as much math as you can;
at least: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.
2. If you are not going to a 4 year college, you must take at least 2 years
of Math. If your Math skills are weak, take Basic Math and Consumer Math
as a minimum. Math credit can also be earned in Accounting and Computer
Programming. |
| Social Studies |
9th grade: World History 1; 10th grade: World History 2/3;
11th grade: U.S. History 1-2; 12th grade: Civics, Economics |
| Foreign Languages |
Two years of the same language are required for admission
to most 4 year colleges, and we strongly recommend 3 years of the same
foreign language, particularly if planning to attend the University of
California. Graduation from high school requires 20 credits from Foreign
Language or Visual and Performing Arts or Technology. |
| Science |
Students are required to take 20 credits of Science. At least
10 credits must be a physical science and at least 10 credits must be a
life science.
1. If you are aiming for the University of California or a California State
University.
a. You must take 2 years of a lab science. 1 year must be Biology and the
second year may consist of any of the following:
b. If you are aiming for a California State University and will graduate
in 2001 or 2002 only one year of lab science is required: chemistry, physics,
anatomy/physiology
c. If you are exceptional in the above courses, consider our AP Biology,
Honors Chemistry, Advanced Placement Chemistry, or Honors Physics. Teacher
recommendation is the prerequisite for these courses.
2. If you are planning to simply meet our graduation requirements, you
must take:
a. One year of life science
b. One year of physical science
3. Health must be taken in the 9th grade. |
| Visual and Performing Arts |
Graduation from high school requires 20 credits from Foreign
Language or Visual and Performing Arts or Technology.
If you are graduating after 2002, 1 year of Visual and Performing Arts
is required for the University of California and California State University. |
| Technology |
Graduation from high school requires 20 credits from Foreign
Language or Visual and Performing Arts or Technology. Computer programming
classes also count as math credit. |
| Physical Education |
20 credits of P.E. are required for graduation including:
P.E. 9 (10 credits) and P.E. 10-12 (10 credits).
If physically unable to participate in P.E., you must file a note from
your physician.
