Two periods - back to back integrated English 10/World Studies course incorporating the English 10 curriculum with the sophomore World Studies/ World History curriculum. English 10 is a college preparatory language arts course which expands and strengthens the skills developed in English 9. Using an enriched literature based curriculum, the course emphasizes intensive reading and discussion, and extensive writing instruction in a variety of forms. Students will develop skills according to individual abilities through open ended assignments, small group discussion, and independent reading. Activities will include reading and responding to classical and contemporary novels, plays, poetry, short stories and nonfiction; writing activities will develop complex grammatical structures and effective stylistic and rhetorical features. Students will make extensive use of the school and public library.
