English 9 is an introductory course, which stresses a rigorous development of skills for the critical evaluation of literature. It includes vocabulary, formal and informal writing, oral communication, reading, and a considerable amount of homework. Students will be exposed to a variety of literary genres: novels, short stories, plays, poetry, and non-fiction. The course will be multi-cultural and include both classical and contemporary material. Students will have the opportunities to develop skills according to their individual abilities, and will participate actively in small group and class discussions. Assignments will be challenging in keeping with the college preparatory nature of the course.
