(12)
Year
Expository writing is designed to provide experience in reading selections
of poems, epics, vignettes, plays, short stories, screenplays and
novels. Students will also be reading independently outside of class.
The course provides extensive reading in the major types of literature,
including classics recommended for college bound students. Composition
assignments will develop writing methods necessary for success in
college as well as creative writing. The course will include a review of
writing skills, instruction in stylistic techniques, practice in the use of
varied sentence structure, preparation for the college essay, and preparation
of original poems, stories, characters, and screenplays. Students
should expect a considerable amount of homework and challenging
reading and writing assignments.
