(11-12)
Year
Contemporary and classic novels (and/or plays—possibly one Shakespeare
play) are studied in a seminar format. Works are chosen to have relevance
to student interest as well as literary merit. Students have choice in deciding
whic h works they read and work on. Collaborative group activities and class
discussions are important components of the learning process. Students
explore various ways of actively responding to literature in writing.
They will be able to write in a variety of forms, which they choose, to express
the meanings they make. Students who choose this course should
enjoy reading book-length works. There will be some homework.
