The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is committed to ensuring that our students understanding of mathematics is broad and deep, preparing them for tomorrow's careers. Thanks to the generosity of the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation last year, SRVUSD was able to infuse their professional learning program with additional events for teachers.
An important element of the SRVUSD math instructional program is developing "The Standards for Mathematical Practice" in each student. These practices describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students.
In addition to the K-12 content standards, these math practices form the instructional foundation for each math lesson being taught from kindergarten math to high school higher level math courses.
To support the teaching of the math practices and to help guide the overall SRVUSD math program, SRVUSD has formed math curriculum councils at the K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 levels. These councils are connecting SRVUSD teachers to professional learning programs through the Silicon Valley Math Initiative, Creative Mathematics, and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).
