WEDNESDAY, August 16th is a regular schedule day at Monte Vista.

Attention Freshmen Class of 2021!  Are you interested in running for an election position for freshman year such as freshman president or vice president?  If so, please come to a mandatory meeting on either Monday, August 21st OR Tuesday, August 22nd in the Leadership room (Art hallway) at lunch to get information.  Elections will be held the following week, August 28th – September 1st.

RED & BLACK ATTACK!  Staff and Students, Let’s kick the year off right and come to school Stampede STRONG!  Wear your best red & black attack this Friday, August 18th.  SENIORS show your senior pride by wearing your senior blackout.

BACK TO SCHOOL ALOHA DANCE will be held this Friday, August 18th from 7 – 10pm.  ALL Mustangs come out and celebrate the first Friday of school together and because it is FREE IF you purchased an Activity Seal.  If you did not purchase an Activity Seal it will be $5.00 at the door.  Come in your best Hawaiian apparel.  Aloha!

BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE VOLUNTEERS:  There are ways to stay engaged in high school as a volunteer.  One opportunity is this week.  Back To School Dance volunteers needed - Friday, August 18 from 6:30-9pm. Here's the signup genius link:

SCHOOL LOOP:  Each 9th grade student and each 9th grade parent needs to register on School Loop even if you have used it as a Middle Schooler.  Please go to MV homepage and select ‘School Loop’ from the drop down Quick Links menu.  Click on Register Now’, and then Student Registration’ or Parent Registration’.  Then complete the registration form.  Please note that 9th grade students have new MV email addresses.  For example MV student Sue Smith would use  mv.ssmith@students.srvusd.net

FALL SPORTS PARENT NIGHT:  Wednesday, August 23rd 6:30PM.    Fall sports include cross country, football, girls golf, girls tennis, girls volleyball, and boys/girls water polo.  Your support lends to the success of your son/daughter and your attendance is expected.  We are looking forward to seeing you all there.  Andy Popper, Athletic Director

STUDENT SCHEDULES:  Students should attend the classes on their current schedule until they meet with a counselor. The counseling office is only seeing students that are missing a period or grad requirement.

ID CARDS: All students need a current MV student ID card.  There is no cost to getting an ID card.  Students may get one from the Attendance office after August 21st if they missed Stampede Day and Late Registration.

Each parent/guardian who chooses to use the online system will need to create a new account in SchoolCafe. Please register here. Once your account is created, any remaining balances from our previous system, Mealtime, will be reflected in your SchoolCafe account. If you have questions regarding your account, please email schoolcafe@srvusd.net.

SOLAR ECLIPSE The peak of the 8/21 eclipse will occur at 10:15 a.m. in the San Ramon Valley and darken the sky.  Don’t forget to use special safety glasses and pinhole projection. More information about safe methods of viewing the eclipse can be found here.

The District has compiled information for staff and parents on a SRVUSD solar eclipse website. You can also find great information at NASA’s special website.

FREE AND REDUCED APPLICATIONS:  The 2017-18 Free and Reduced Price Meals Application will be available within the parent portal of Infinite Campus.   For more information about the SRVUSD Lunch Program, click here.

STAMPEDE DAY VOLUNTEERS:  MV Admin and PTSA Board would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that worked hours to make Stampede Day very successful.  Although we can not list each of your names know you are each appreciated.  We look forward to connect the families of MV to the school through fun activities, programs and scholarships.  Please consider joining the PTSA.

COFFEE WITH KEVIN:  Wednesday, August 23rd at 8:30am in 118.  Last year we started a new tradition that has been very popular with parents.  Join Principal Ahern for a monthly coffee in 118 downstairs in the WSC (Workday Student Center).  The coffees usually include a presentation by a few MV department heads and some Q&A.  This year we are also reading through a book together.  So join in the discussion and see you then!

This year the meetings will be held in middle schools.  The most convenient locations include Los Cerros (9/25 at 9am) and Stone Valley (10/25 at 8:30).  The discussion will be focused on expanding opportunities for student, family and staff choice, improving student wellness, enhancing staff working conditions and ensuring that each student, employee and family feels safe and respected

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:  8/22  Parents enjoy this evening as you cross campus following the student's class schedule.  Back to School Night is an opportunity to learn about your student's classes and teacher expectations.    The bells will start 1st period at 7pm although there will be opportunity to meet with campus groups and admin in the amphitheater from 6pm.  We are looking forward to the start of another fantastic year at Monte Vista.
