WELCOME TO MONTE VISTA:  Are you brand new to Monte Vista – and in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade? Enjoy a pizza lunch in your honor (WSC, Room 118) this Thursday, August 24th. You can meet other students new to Monte Vista from across the state, country, and even the world. There are 79 of you!

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:  TONIGHT  Tuesday 8/22  Students remind your parents to come with your schedule tomorrow for Back to School Night.  Back to School Night is an opportunity to learn about your student's classes and teacher expectations.    The bells will start 1st period at 7pm although there will be opportunity to meet with campus groups and admin in the amphitheater from 6pm.  We are looking forward to the start of another fantastic year at Monte Vista.

MVHS Logo-wear will be on sale at Back To School Night Tuesday, August 22nd from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. If you missed buying a sweatshirt, Polo shirt, blanket, stadium cushion stop by in front of the theater by the horseshoe. Any questions feel free to email Cece Kohl, ckohl@srvusd.net.  We take checks, cash or charge.

COFFEE WITH KEVIN:  Wednesday, August 23rd at 8:30am in 118.  Last year we started a new tradition that has been very popular with parents.  Join Principal Ahern for a monthly coffee in 118 downstairs in the WSC (Workday Student Center).  The coffees usually include a presentation by a few MV department heads and some Q&A.  This year we are also reading through a book together.  So join in the discussion and see you then!

BASKETBALL All girls interested in playing basketball - there will be an informational meeting Tuesday 8/22 at 1:00 in room 201. We will discuss open gym and paperwork that needs to be completed before tryouts.

CARPOOL PARKING SPOTS  Carpool spots are sold and assigned to a specific car and driver.  Please do not park in carpool spots unless it is your spot – you will be ticketed.

ATTENTION FROSH!  Are you interested in running for an election position for freshmen year such as freshmen president or vice president?  If so, please come to a mandatory meeting on either Monday, August 21st OR Tuesday, August 22nd in the Leadership room (Art hallway) at lunch to get information.  Elections will be held the following week, August 28th – September 1st.

FALL SPORTS PARENT NIGHT:  Wednesday, August 23rd 6:30PM.    Fall sports include cross country, football, girls golf, girls tennis, girls volleyball, and boys/girls water polo.  Your support lends to the success of your son/daughter and your attendance is expected.  We are looking forward to seeing you all there.  Andy Popper, Athletic Director

Women's Water Polo eWaste Fundraising event will be held this Sunday, August 27th from 10am - 4pm at MVHS in the school parking lot next to Oak Hill Park.  Please stop by with your eWaste and tell your friends to do the same.  A great way to clear the clutter and help the Woman’s Varsity & JV Water Polo teams at the same time!

AN EVENING WITH SUPERINTENDENT RICK SCHMITT
This year the meetings will be held in middle schools.  The most convenient locations include Los Cerros (9/25 at 9am) and Stone Valley (10/25 at 8:30).  The discussion will be focused on expanding opportunities for student, family and staff choice, improving student wellness, enhancing staff working conditions and ensuring that each student, employee and family feels safe and respected

OKTOBERFEST!  Join other Mustang sports fans for the second annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 30 at the Oak Hill Park Community Center, hosted by Monte Vista Athletic Boosters.  This is an adults only event with great food and beverages, plus a commemorative pint glass.  All proceeds support Monte Vista Athletics.  See http://www.mvathleticboosters.org for more event info and purchase tickets in the MVHS web store.
