Monte Vista Wrestling concluded its season this past weekend with four wrestlers – Senior Mac Ellison, Junior Drew Fryer, Senior Stephen Stockton and Senior Grant Huston - competing in the North Coast Section Championships.  The NCS Wrestling Championships take the best wrestlers in each weight class from the 120 plus NCS wrestling programs.

Stephen Stockton finished his season in the top 12 of NCS – one match away from a medaling.   He finished with a season record of 25-15 with 15 pins, five tournament placings and defeated several league champions along the way.

Grant Huston – who was mentioned in the State Rankings for most of the year – suffered a freak injury in practice the night before the EBAL Championships.  As a result, he entered the NCS Tournament as an unseeded at large participant.  He went 3-2 losing only to the eventual champion and to a seeded De La Salle wrestler in which he reopened his previously stitched wound in a highly contested match.  Grant finished the year 26-9 with an amazing 22 pins.  He had three tournament placings including a 1st at the San Ramon Valley Invitational and had a 10-1 stomping of the eventual NCS finalist from San Ramon.

JV Wrestling finished strong last week at EBAL Championships with three wrestlers – Cole Soloman, Alex Kelly, and Sterling Martin - bringing home championships. Freshman Justin Song took a 2nd place.  These wrestlers along with Sophomore Josh Pereira – wrestling successfully up at Varsity - and Junior Patrick Sherry – out with a concussion – will lead MV wrestling in the 2018/2019 season.
