Attendance at MV

PARENTS CALL FOR STUDENT ABSENCE:

Absences for last names A - G, please call 552-2890.

Absences for last names H-O,   please call 552-2806 .

Absences for last names P - Z,  please call 552-2817.

For partial absence, leave the student's name (and spelling the last name), the time of arrival or departure, and the reason for the absence.

FOR EARLY DEPARTURE THERE ARE A FEW STEPS:

Please call well in advance of the departure time because the student needs to visit the attendance office ahead of time to pick up a yellow pass to eliminate classroom interruption.

It is mandatory at MV for students to sign-out in the Attendance Office before they leave campus or the absence will be considered a cut.  MV is a closed campus so students can't leave without this step.

If a student is leaving during class time, the student needs to first pick up the YELLOW pass from the Attendance Office that will allow them to sign out at the appropriate time.

STUDENTS ARRIVING ON CAMPUS LATE OR AFTER MED APPOINTMENT:

Upon returning to school, medical/dental appointments require a note from the medical/dental office verifying the appointment.  This is a district requirement.

SRVUSD REMINDER:  YOUR ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Since we know that student success is tied to regular attendance and we know that State funding is tied to regular attendance, we know that having every student in school every day needs to be our goal.

Of course, sick students need to stay home. But in the SRVUSD, many of our students’ absences can be attributed to reasons other than illness. Some of those reasons include:

  • Extended long weekends or breaks
  • Travelling
  • Non-CIF/SRVUSD operated sports, arts and other events or tournaments

Additionally, what you may not know about attendance is that the State does not count excused absences in the ADA for funding purposes. If a student is absent for any reason, we do not get funding for that student for that day. Each day that a student misses school, the District loses approximately $70.

By providing information about the importance of regular attendance, we hope that families will take a fresh look at their child(ren)’s attendance habits and begin to understand the impact that missing even one day can have on their education and on the District, as a whole.

In the days and months to come, we will be providing you with more information about the value of regular attendance. If you have ideas that you would like to share on this topic, we would love to hear from you. You can reach us at Communications@SRVUSD.net
